We're diving into the first YA novel of Phase 3 with Defy the Storm, written by Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton. 

A year after the fall of Starlight, Avon Starros struggles with her mom's involvement with the Nihil and her forced participation in their activities. With an insider's help, Avon plans to liberate herself from the Nihil and save a lost friend. But first, she has to find her old bestie Vernestra Rwoh, who has been living as an isolated Wayseeker on the planet Ibbe. 

Meanwhile, reunited girlfriends Syl Yarrow and Jordanna Sparkburn work for Maz Kanata. Jordanna wants to join the fight against the Nihil, but Syl struggles with her mom Chancey Yarrow's supposed death and involvement in making the Stormwall. Maz's latest job might be the chance Jordanna has been looking for and an opportunity for Syl to find some answers, whether she wants them or not. 

Secrets, revelations and reunions start this novel with a bang. And not the good kind.
